What is BC 1 Call?
There is a vast network of underground pipes and cables used to transport oil and gas, water and sewage, electricity, and telecommunication services across British Columbia. Before you dig, find out what’s buried below your site by requesting a locate from BC 1 Call.
BC 1 Call is the link between the excavating community and the owners of underground infrastructure. By contacting BC 1 Call, private landowners and commercial excavators reduce the risk of personal injury and property damage.
Why use BC 1 Call
Step 1: Register as a BC 1 Call User online and submit an online locate request at bc1c.ca (or call 1-800-474-6886) by providing your contact information and details about the dig site.
Step 2: Upon receipt of a completed locate request, BC 1 Call will identify which of our members have underground infrastructure at or near your dig site, and notify them of your request.
Step 3: You will receive same-day confirmation by email of BC 1 Call’s receipt of your completed locate request and the names of the members that have been notified. You will also be advised to contact any other parties (who are not members of BC 1 Call) and may have underground facilities in your excavation area.
Step 4: Once our member companies receive the notice of your dig project they will respond within 3 business days with a map or drawing, or mark the ground using paint or flags where their utilities are buried.
